Pizzeria e trattoria da ISA
Looking for awesome artisanal pizza in Tokyo? Pizzeria e trattoria da ISA is the place to go. The storefront might look like any ordinary pizzeria, but this place in Meguro is anything but ordinary.
World Renowned Pizza Champion
The chef and owner of the pizzeria is Hisanori Yamamoto, a Shizuoka native who spent over a decade learning the art of pizza-making in Italy. By his early thirties, he had already won three times the top prize of the World Pizza Championship. His success as an outstanding Japanese pizza chef was so great that he's been featured in newspapers around the world including the Wallstreet Journal. He opened Pizzeria e trattoria da ISA in Meguro in 2010 and it quickly became one of the most talked-about restaurants in Tokyo. You can often see long lines in front of the restaurant.
World-Class Neapolitan Pizza In A Laid-Back Atmosphere
Chef Yamamoto's pizza is authentic Neapolitan baked in a wood oven that was imported from Italy. Although the pizza is top-class, the atmosphere is super laid back. So it's easy to casually go there, alone or in good company for a few drinks while you enjoy awesome pizza.
Pizza The Way It Was Meant To Be
In the true classic Italian pizza spirit, Chef Yamamoto doesn't care about having his pizzas perfectly shaped or having the toppings perfectly placed. The goal is to serve a quality pizza with good toppings and crust at a reasonable price.
Served piping hot, the crust in the middle is thin while the edges are relatively thick and chewy with a nice saltiness. Pizzas are typically between ¥1,500 to ¥2,300. You can't go wrong with the Margherita which comes in many different variations.
The place is just as popular for lunch. You can have a pizza for just ¥1,000 during the lunch hours that are between 11:30 AM to 2 PM. Add ¥250 and you get a salad too.
The restaurant has a selection of about 6 antipasti dishes too if you aren't in a pizza mood or would like some more variety.
As for drinks, choose the German Lowenbrau beer to pair with their pizzas.
As you probably suspect, the place gets crowded so if you want to try Pizzeria e trattoria da ISA, you're better to make a reservation in advance.
